the shops closed for mourning

The Shops of San Gregorio Armenoknown throughout the world for their artisanal works of art, remain closed due to the premature death of Alessandro Starini, friend and colleague of the shopkeepers. Alessandro Stariniwas “one of the most esteemed members of the association”, say his colleagues.

Vincenzo Capuano, president of the Botteghe di San Gregorio, expressed his condolences to the family: «Not only was he a skilled craftsman – said Capuano – but also as a precious member of the San Gregorio family. Today our association gathers around the family of our dear friend, for whom there will be a funeral at 4pm at the Basilica of San Lorenzo. A good man, an excellent craftsman and a member of the family of all nativity makers. Since Alessandro’s funeral will be held in the afternoon, I think it is appropriate to remain closed for mourning all day. Visitors and citizens will understand and appreciate this humble gesture in memory of one of our brothers, seeing a completely closed San Gregorio Armeno”.

«Alessandro – said the coordinator of the Botteghe di San Gregorio association Gabriele Casillo – in addition to being a good nativity craftsman in the art of manipulating clay, he was also a kind and generous boy, I will always remember his availability towards everyone and his passion for nativity art when tourists passed by and he did not spare himself in giving explanations regardless of the sale of his product”.
