Peranzane olives from Alta Daunia

If the Italian table olive has recorded a growth of 40% in the last ten years, with over 3 million tonnes of product, it is also thanks to development strategies. Senator Gisella Naturale of the 5 Star Movement will take stock of the situation on 22 April in the Isma room of the Senate of the Republic, in a round table entitled ‘Olive growing and the market: what prospects for table olives Made in Italy’.

Together with the parliamentarian from Foggia, vice-president of the IX Agriculture Commission, who has always been committed to the valorisation of the table olive – in Puglia there are 36 Oil Cities, in a region which dictates the law in Italy for green gold and olives – Present at the meeting will be the president of Italia Olivicola Gennaro Sicolo, David Granieri, head of Unaprol, Tommaso Loiodice, president of Unapol and Maurizio Servilli, professor at the University of Perugia.

A very respectable technical parterre, moderated by Selena Vacca, head of the M5S-Agricultural Policies legislative office, to which will be added the testimony of Nazzario D’Errico of the Op Peranzana of Alta Daunia, representing all the producer organizations of Italian table olives.

The conclusions are entrusted to Patrizio La Pietra, undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry. A precious moment of in-depth analysis which is part of the cycle of meetings planned by the “intergroup on development and valorisation strategies of the olive sector”.

The objective is to agree on an integrated national strategy for olive growing. The presence of Op Peranzana at the conference is an added value, because this type of olive, which represents a territory, that of Alta Daunia, in which, with 6,700 olive-growing companies, approximately nine thousand hectares of olive groves are cultivated and 300,000 quintals of olives are produced oil and 30,000 table olives and for the latter the recognition of the Protected Designation of Origin is in the pipeline.
