The Israeli authorities initially scheduled an attack against Iran for the night of Tuesday 16 April, in response to the one launched by Tehran at the weekend, but then decided to wait and postpone it. Anonymous sources told the news portal “Axios” that Benjamin Netanyahu’s government informed the United States of the decision on Tuesday. “We don’t know why they chose this date or why they decided to postpone,” an anonymous US official said.
Netanyahu: “Israel will make decisions autonomously to respond to the Iranian attack”
Israel will make its own decisions to respond to the Iranian attack and will do everything necessary to defend itself. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, during the weekly government meeting. “I have just returned from meeting the British and German Foreign Ministers. Last night I spoke to the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, and I will be speaking to other leaders soon,” he said.
Netanyahu then added: “I thank our friends for their support in the defense of Israel and I say this: support both in word and in deed. They also gave all kinds of suggestions and advice, which I appreciate; However, I would also like to clarify: we will make our own decisions.”
Finally, in the context of the ongoing operation in the Gaza Strip to defeat the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, the prime minister stated: “Hamas terrorists tried to eradicate us. We will uproot them and deepen our roots. We will build the Land of Israel and safeguard our state.”
