CONI awards Fabrizio Meoni the Gold Medal for Athletic Valor
An exciting day, which saw motorcycling as the protagonist in front of the major representatives of Italian sport. During National Council held today at the “Giulio Onesti” Olympic Training Center in Rome, on CONES assigned to Fabrizio Meoni there Gold Medal for Athletic Valor: a prestigious recognition, given to the generous pilot who died during the 2005 Dakar for his sporting and life values.
The Minister for Sport, Andrea AbodiThe President of CONI, Giovanni MalagòThe President of the IMF and Member of the Board, Giovanni Copiolithey delivered the gold medal and the celebratory parchment to Fabrizio’s wife, Elenaand to his son Joel. Both recalled, moved, the importance of the value of solidarity for the winning pilot of the 2001 and 2002 Dakar. Also present were the Vice Presidents of CONI, Silvia Salis And Claudia Giordani, The Secretary General of CONI Carlo Mornati and the Mayor of Castiglion Fiorentino, Mario Agnelli.
The recognition that celebrated the memory of Fabrizio Meoni, promoted by the FMI, was also awarded through the intercession of Minister Andrea Abodi who last January visited Castiglion Fiorentino (AR) and had the opportunity to learn even better about the exploits of our beloved pilot . To introduce the most touching moments of today’s event, a commemorative video of Fabrizio was shown which recalled his incredible deeds.
In his speech, the Minister of Sports Abodi highlighted how the awarding of the Gold Medal for Athletic Valor enhances the values of family and altruism in which Fabrizio Meoni fully recognized himself. The words of the very heartfelt President of CONI Malagò who underlined how the moral and sporting caliber found a perfect synthesis in the figure of Meoni. His son, Gioele, and his wife Elena highlighted the spirit of solidarity and love that Fabrizio felt towards Africa and which was expressed in charitable initiatives.
“Fabrizio Meoni was and is a point of reference for all of us in sport as in life”, underlined the IMF President Giovanni Copioli. “He contributed to doing good in a land, Africa, that he particularly loved and I am sincerely proud that Gioele carries on the same spirit as his father with the projects of his foundation. I thank him on behalf of the entire FMI because with these activities the values of Fabrizio, sport and life are perpetuated and shared.”
