VIESTE – Fazzini-Giuliani students in legality lessons, meeting with CC lieutenant Amato

As part of the orientation and legality education activities envisaged by the institute’s PTOF, the students of the second and third classes of the IISS “Fazzini-Giuliani” had the pleasure of meeting on Wednesday 17 April in the school’s Auditorium, the Lieutenant Mario Amato, recently appointed to the Vieste Carabinieri Lieutenant.

The meeting took place in several moments. In the first part, the students were able to watch a short video on the history of the Carabinieri which highlighted the daily and essential contribution that they make to the life of our country. The children were able to realise, through the presentation of the various departments that make up the Army, how widespread their presence is in the social life of our country and that it does not only refer to defense and protection operations for citizens.

Lieutenant Amato then addressed a topic that is particularly felt among the younger generations: that of the consumption of narcotic substances. Through a PPT the students were able to realize the damage that drug use has on the mental and physical health of adolescents. At the same time they also became aware of the legal consequences that drug possession, consumption and dealing can have in the lives of young people. Particularly touching was the reference to the latest tragedy that struck the Army with the premature and absurd death of the two Apulian soldiers, Marshal Francesco Pastore and Officer Francesco Ferraro, caused by a young woman under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

The students appeared extremely interested and did not fail to ask Lieutenant Amato questions on the various topics addressed, who also responded with real life episodes taken from his more than twenty-year career in the Army.

The final part of the meeting saw the participation of the President of the Antiracket Association of Vieste, Nicola Rosiello, and Dr. Vittoria Salvati. The Antiracket Association of Vieste was the first association of this kind to be founded in the province of Foggia. Over the years it has constituted and still constitutes a valid bulwark against extortion phenomena which were, unfortunately, quite widespread in our territory. President Rosiello reiterated the need not to relax our guard and to always be vigilant so that we do not return to that bad season.

The meeting on Wednesday 17th followed the previous meeting on Wednesday 10th and is part of the legality awareness activities strongly supported by the Carabinieri and the local educational institutions. During his speech, Lieutenant Mario Amato repeatedly reiterated the importance of meeting the young generations: it is, in fact, within them that lies the hope of a future based on respect for rules, legality and civil life.
