Forest fires, operational meeting to combat the emergency in Salento

The prefect of Lecce In fact, Luca Rotondi today – 17 April – chaired a meeting aimed at taking stock of the measures and structures put in place for the prediction, prevention and active fight against forest and interface fires and for the management of emergencies.

From the Puglia Region, responsible for planning and coordination, thanks to European-derived funds, further aircraft and other means will arrive in use by Arif which in turn will make 60 drones with cameras, including thermal ones, available throughout the regional territory. technologically advanced, while the Carabinieri will guarantee the possibility of using a helicopter. The meeting was attended by the leaders of the police force, the commanders of the fire brigade, traffic police, provincial police, forestry carabinieri group, port master’s office, air force, as well as representatives of the Puglia Region and the provincial coordination of protection volunteering civil and, in remote connection, the representatives of the Municipalities of the province, of Arif and the managing bodies of the road and railway network.

From the analysis of data relating to the last summer season, an increase in vegetation and brush fires emerged in numerous areas of the provincial territory. A strong invitation was therefore made, explained the prefecture, to local administrators to raise awareness among private individuals of the need to carry out the necessary preventive works on the land, to avoid incurring administrative and criminal liability.
