FRANTOLIO: XVIII EDITION OF THE PELIGNO GOOD OIL COMPETITION ON 21 APRIL AT PRICE | Current news

SULMONA – The award of the olive growers and millers of the Peligna Valley, dedicated to the exclusive local variety, the “Rustica e gentile” olive, reaches its eighteenth edition with the awards ceremony to be held on Sunday 21 April in Prezza (L’Aquila) .

This is “Frantolio”, a competition for good Peligno oil in which around 80 producers participated this year, sending the 2023 oil samples, almost double compared to the last edition, “demonstrating the commitment that the local olive growers they care for and safeguard the olive growing heritage of the area”, as stated in a note from the “Rustica e Gentile” association, promoter of the event.

There will be five winners, including olive growers and millers, and five special mentions, decreed by the panel of tasters led by Marino Giorgetti.

During the event, the students of the “Serpieri” agricultural institute will present the state of olive growing in Peligna and the plant pathologist agronomist Domenico D’Ascenzo will speak on the topic of phytosanitary defense against olive tree adversities. Other events will surround the initiative: on Saturday 20th a guided oil tasting lesson held by Lorenzo Palazzoli in Piazza Umberto I in Prezza. Wednesday 24th an olive tree pruning course for the students of the Serpieri institute, led by the agronomist Luciano Pollastri, former technical officer of the Agriculture Directorate of the Abruzzo Region.
