The Fire Brigade participated in the national day dedicated to the sea and maritime culture, celebrated on Thursday 11 April in the splendid setting of the port of Vibo Marina. Present at the event were the prefect of Vibo, Giovanni Paolo Grieco, and the civil, military and religious authorities of the Vibo province.
The “Sea Day”, established in 2017 by the Ministry of Education, recalls one of the most tragic environmental accidents in Italian history: on 11 April 1991 a sudden explosion on board the oil tanker Haven caused a fire in the fuel transported by the ship which poured into the sea.
An important day which for years now has been carried out in full harmony with the educational institutions and with the other police forces and the realities of the territory connected to the sea. Hundreds of students from schools in the province participated in the event, organized by the Amerigo Vespucci Comprehensive Institute in collaboration with the Port Authority, the Financial Police, the Fire Brigade, the Port Authority and the Pro Loco of the hamlet. After greetings from those in attendance, the nautical unit of the Fire Brigade, the Captaincy and the Roan of the Guardia di Finanza carried out an exercise with a fire and rescue simulation.
