Amazon’s excellent television adaptation of the series Fallout is now available in its entirety, and we really liked it.

The Bethesda franchise (found Fallout 4 in version GOTY ) is in fact experiencing a second youth.

In the review of the TV series we explained that «the Amazon and Kilter Films production, in fact, will not disappoint all fans of the Bethesda franchise, as well as being absolutely digestible even by those who know absolutely nothing about the post-apocalyptic video game series.»

However, not all fans of Fallout are pleased with the way it seems to rewrite what was thought to be established lore of the series, seemingly retracting the ending of Fallout: New Vegas (Street Push Square).

Obviously, important ones follow from now spoilers both for New Vegas than for the Amazon show. Proceed at your own risk.

Bethesda’s design director, Emil Pagliarulo, provided a timeline of the universe of Falloutand this is where problems start to arise.

The TV adaptation is the most recent in terms of chronology and takes place in 2296, i.e 15 years after the events of New Vegas.

One commenter responded: “Ok fine. It’s just that, according to the show, an, um… major event occurs in 2277 that would definitely impact Fallout: New Vegas. The only way to fix it would be to move the event date to ‘after’ New Vegas and call it a day a writing error».

The biggest problem lies in the sixth episode of the show, which mentions that Shady Sands, the capital of the New California Republic (NCR), was destroyed in 2277.

This is a mistake because it means that the faction was largely wiped out four years before the climactic events of New Vegasthe same year the faction would fight in the First Battle of Hoover Dam against Caesar’s Legion.

In the Amazon show, the NCR has been scattered since the destruction of Shady Sands, a ragtag group doing what they can to rebuild society.

It does not appear that they will be able to establish a “significant military presence” in time to face the Legion again in the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, the last encounter players will face in New Vegas.

In short, it would be a full-blown retcon, which the most attentive fans just won’t swallow.

In the meantime, we needed the TV series of Fallout of Prime Video to “unlock” the next-gen update of Fallout 4maybe, but finally there is a date.

But not only that: all the chapters of the saga, from the original Fallout until Fallout 76are on sale on the Xbox Games Store with a discount of at least 75%.
