MONTE CARLO (Principality of Monaco) – Jannik Sinner takes revenge from last edition and beats Holger Rune to the quarter-finals of the Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo and returns to the semi-final where he will face Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Italian tennis player won with a score of 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-3 after 2 hours and 40 minutes

A cynical Jannik in the first set to take advantage of the Dane’s only missed pass but less so in the 2nd where the Dane did well to save himself twice from 0-40 (5th and 11th game). The fraction goes to a tie-break where Jannik has 2 match points at 6-4 but, even on this occasion, the Dane stands out by scoring 4 consecutive points to extend the match to the third set.
The blue seems to suffer from the multifaceted game of the Dane who, between accelerations, short balls and quick solutions, puts Jannik in difficulty but in the 8th game the turning point arrives: Rune encounters another complicated round of service and this time Sinner punishes him (15 -40) also helped by the double fault which brought him to 5-3 and then closed.

Third set: Sinner 6-3

Tense innings with Rune giving nothing away and leading 30-30. Jannik is cold, he opens the court well with forehands and backhands for 40-30 and then with the first he puts the end to the match

Third set: Sinner 5-3 (break)

Two rounds of service at 0 for both (4-3 Sinner), and then here is the 8th game where Sinner returns to scare Rune (0-30): the Dane still finds an important point with the short ball but then Jannik fires a beautiful backhand down the line response for the 15-40! Second serve for Rune and double fault which leads Sinner to serve for the match!

Third set: Sinner 3-2

Start of third quarter on-serve but in the 5th game he arrivessecond break point of the match for Rune at 30-40 Sinner serves which is pardoned twice by the opponent: first with an unlikely short ball and then with a bad backhand into the net. Sinner saves himself and goes up 3-2

Second set: Runes 7-6(6)

Thrilling moment for Sinner who on the 6th point, down 3-2, pinches the baseline and replays the point because the referee had called out. Jannik makes up for it with the first for the 3-3. Rune wastes a second from Sinner by shooting the forehand into the net (4-3) and in the following exchange the blue increases the intensity with a great backhand pass for the mini-break (5-3)! Rune mends the game and the match is decided in the South Tyrolean’s two innings: second winner on the line for match points (6-4) but Rune gets excited. Three consecutive points to reach set point at 7-6. Sinner hits the net with his backhand and we go to the 3rd set.

Second set: 6-6

Rune starts to feel a little on his feet and Sinner feels it’s time, at 5-5 the Dane finds himself serving under 0-30! Rune gets the warning for violating the time and “catches” the public also suffering a warning from the race director. Rune gets into an argument with the referee so much so that he sits down and waits for the supervisor and stops the match. The stop does not affect Sinner who forces the opponent into an error for the second 0-40 of the set. The Dane reacts well this time too, saving the 3 break points and going up 6-5. Sinner holds serve at 0 and it goes to the tie-break.

Second set: Rune 5-4

Rune undermines Sinner’s serve, doing well, especially in defense, to resist for the 3-3. No problems for the Dane in his turn at bat and he remains “on serve”. In the 10th game Sinner becomes dangerous again (40-40) but Rune scores two great points to take the lead 5-4.

Second set: Rune 3-2

Same script as the 1st set, balanced first 4 games (but without brak balls allowed) and then in the 5th Rune has his empty pass: 0-40! But this time the Dane reacts; he cancels the first with a beautiful short ball, the second break point with a solid second serve and then the third again with a short ball, bringing the game to the advantage. Sinner makes an unusual mistake and Rune closes, saving himself.

First set: Sinner 6-4 (43′)

Thanks to the solidity of the first serve, Sinner recovers from 15-30 and holds serve to lead 5-3. Rune, after the break immediately, regains confidence in his serves by also mixing his game and remains in the wake of the blue who goes to serve on the 5-4 to close the set. This time too the blue is glacial: 40-0 and the first set closed in 43 minutes.

First set: Sinner 4-2

Start of the match “on serve” with Sinner saving a break ball in the 4th game (30-40 but in the 5th he scores breaking serve from Rune at 15 for 3-2 with a streak of 7 points won in the last 8! Jannik confirms the break with a solid turn of serve.

First set: warm-up

Tennis players on the court for the warm-up, Sinner wins the toss and as with Struff decides to respond.
