Arera has communicated the value of the raw material of the gas vulnerability protection service for the month of April 2024. The component of the gas price to cover supply costs (CMEM,m), applied to customers in the vulnerability protection service, it is updated by ARERA as a monthly average of the price on the Italian wholesale market (the PSV day ahead) and published within the first 2 working days of the month following the reference month. For the month of April, which saw wholesale prices rise compared to those recorded in March, the price of the gas raw material alone (CMEM,m), for customers in the vulnerability protection service, was 30.49 €/MWh.

“Excellent news! Despite the increase in prices in the wholesale markets, the price of gas for the vulnerable is falling. Even if the savings are minimal, equal to 11 euros on an annual basis, it is a demonstration of how regulated prices are still important to protect the families’ wallet! The regret remains that the reduction could have been equal to 133 euros if the system charges and the old VAT rates had not been remitted at the beginning of the year. Without these increases, gas would have fallen by 12.8%” he states Marco Vignola, vice president of the National Consumers Union.

According to the study by the National Consumers Union, for the new typical user who consumes 1100 cubic meters of gas, -0.9% means spending 11 euros (10.56 euros) less on an annual basis. The total expenditure in the next twelve months (not, therefore, according to the rolling year, but from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025, in the hypothesis of constant prices), thus drops to 1106 euros, which added to the 546 of the light of the typical family, determine a total expense of 1652 euros.
