Jez Corden asked in an interview with creative director Matt Searcy and brand director Nicole Fawcette whether Gears of War: E-Day will mark the beginning of a new trilogyand while plans for the series are evidently not yet solidified beyond a basic idea, the response has been interesting.
“We are focusing on E-Day and putting everything we can into the game – we will decide the next project in the future,” Searcy said. To which the brand director was quick to reassure that the team is not moving away from the stories of Gears 4 and Gears 5, as declared at the time of the reveal.
An understandable position, if we consider the story of Kait Diaz, JD Fenix and Del Walker it remained sensationally unfinishedmoreover with a twist that could change many things in a possible Gears 6.
“We’ve just spent time thinking about the stories we want to tell, and we can actually flex the franchise on both sides. We’re excited to tell this story and hope the fans love it too,” Fawcette concluded.
Fourteen years is a long time
We knew that Gears of War: E-Day postponed Gears 6 until further notice, but the fact that the prequel is set fourteen years earlier compared to the initial chapter of the saga, it gives the authors a wide margin of maneuver on a narrative level.
Precisely because of this large space the idea of a prequel trilogy it would make perfect sense, but there is precisely the “problem” of Gears 6 to be resolved in a reasonable amount of time: perhaps The Coalition will organize itself into different teams to be able to carry forward both timelines?
