Announced during yesterday’s Xbox Games Shocase, Gears of War: E-Day postpones Gears 6 to a later date and therefore asks fans of the series to wait to find out how the trilogy dedicated to the new generation of characters will end.

The opportunity to find Marcus and Dom again was too good for the developers, however, and brand director Nicole Fawcette explained that The Coalition’s passion for the story of E-Day and the origins of the two original protagonists was so strong that it could not be ignored.

“We’re very proud of Gears 4 and Gears 5 and the stories that were told,” Fawcette said. “We are not moving away from that history in any waybut right now we had the opportunity to write our next step, and it felt too good to pass up.”

Can’t beat the charm of the original?

The Gears of War E-Day trailer, with in-game graphics, was received with such enthusiasm as to confirm the words of the members of The Coalition, who unfortunately with the fourth and fifth chapters were unable to replicate the charm of the original trilogy.

Rather than continue on this path and conclude what had in fact become a trilogy dedicated to the character of Kait Diaz, with Marcus and the previous generation acting as simple extras, the developers therefore thought they had to take a step back and rediscover the atmospheres and themes which first determined the success of the franchise.

Microsoft also wanted to point out that Gears of War: E-Day is not a spin-offbut rather a canonical prequel that tells the origins of two much-loved characters, adding details and contexts that we will then find in the new chapters of the saga.
