Helldivers 2 has been having a hard time lately but now we’re looking ahead and at the next contents that could be coming to the shooter video game. Precisely in this regard, the CEO of Arrowhead Studios, Johan Pilestedt, has hinted that another alien species, or potentially an entire enemy factionis lurking behind the scenes in Helldivers 2.
The information comes in response to some online players requesting the inclusion of various collaborations within the online shooter, such as a potential crossover with Predator. At that point, the Helldivers 2 boss responded provocatively: “Imagine if in the Helldivers universe there was a Predator-like alien species, exiled from the galaxy, plotting revenge.”
Another user then wrote: “Is the CEO sharing clues about the next faction?!?!?”. To which Pilested replied: “I would never do that!”, obviously ironically given that he often suggests via Twitter what could be coming to Helldivers 2.
Helldivers Illuminati
Another player then asked in the comments if this is an allusion to the Illuminati (with the phrase, ‘are you enlightened?’), a faction from the first game that was thought to have been defeated. “I prefer to call myself wise, but thank you,” Pilestedt responded.
The play on words unfortunately only works well in Englishwith Pilested using the term “Enlightened” instead of “Illuminated” (which was used as a verb by the user): both words mean “enlightened”, although with different nuances.
It has long been assumed that the Illuminati are the next faction coming to Helldivers 2. It’s not just speculation either: players have spotted signs of this faction in the game. The sightings have been coming for months, and in the past blue rays typical of the race have even been filmed fatally striking Helldivers from afar.
In Helldivers 1, the Illuminati were there third faction the Helldivers fought against, a group of psionic aliens also known as Squ’ith with a predilection for barriers, shields, and protective technology, as well as projectile weapons. We can’t clearly confirm anything, but it would appear that the speculations are correct.
We also know that the helmets originally had special functions, but the idea was discarded.
