ANCONA – It’s called Total Body Mapping ATBM Master, it’s a device capable of scanning the moles of patients at risk and reporting if situations need to be kept under control occur. Objective: to diagnose potential melanoma early. On Monday 13 May INRCA will activate a Crowdfunding on the Eppela platform and for those who donate at least 200 euros there will be a free dermatological visit.

“With the traditional method, processing the photo of each mole takes about 4 minutes, while for a patient full of moles it would take a whole day. In patients at risk, the machine we want to purchase instead does a complete mapping, warns if there is a new growth or one that has changed over time and therefore worthy of further investigation. There, I then go to investigate with the dermoscope, computerized digital dermoscope or focal microscope – explains Dr. Alfredo Giacchetti, Director of the complex Dermatology Operational Unit – Dermosurgery INRCA– this reduces the number of unnecessary removals. At the moment, in fact, one of the problems with waiting lists is that we carry out a high number of operations for lesions that may not be removed. Inrca would be the first public facility to equip itself with the machine: “We will make this equipment available to patients throughout the Region” added Giacchetti.

Mortality for melanoma today is among the lowest of all cancers compared to its growing incidence, has decreased in recent times thanks to early diagnosis and the use of new drugs, such as targeted drugs and immunotherapies. In the Marche region, between 2015 and 2020, 331 deaths were recorded out of over 3 thousand diagnoses with an annual cost of treatment of 1 million and 800 thousand euros.
