New iPad Pros, demand may be low for two reasons: TrendForce analysis

The new iPad Pro introduce some elements long awaited by Apple fans, including latest generation OLED screens together with a renewed design just over 5 millimeters thick. All with the best performance ever in the line-up, thanks to the M4 processor. However, according to TrendForce forecasts, demand for these devices may be lower than that of previous generation devices.

TrendForce estimates that Total shipments of the new iPad Pros in 2024 will reach between 4.5 and 5 million units, a decline from the previous year’s numbers. And, according to the marketing company, there are two main factors behind this pessimistic forecast.

The question about the new iPad Pros may not be exciting: but not a problem

First, the new iPad Pro models have seen a significant price increase, with a starting price in the American market of 200 dollars higher compared to previous generations. While the increase in base models comes with double the storage, the overall cost for buyers remains high, especially when you add in mandatory accessories like the new Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil Pro.

The second factor concerns the introduction of the 13-inch iPad Air, which could sacrifice consumer interest in the more expensive Pro models. The iPad Air family offers for the first time a generous display size, at a more accessible price than the Pro series models, meeting the needs of those who want a larger display without having to pay for the professional features of which they don’t need.

Despite these predictions, TrendForce points out that the market for tablets with OLED displays is not too big in terms of sizewith a forecast of 9 million shipments overall during 2024, or approximately 7% of the tablet market. In this context, Apple should still be able to conquer about half of this market segment on its first attempt, an achievement that cannot be considered a failure.
