For several years fans have wanted Prey 2 from Bethesda, but the closure of Arkane Austin at the hands of Microsoft it now seems to have eliminated any hope of seeing a sequel to the acclaimed immersive sim sooner or later. And even a diehard fan of the game is giving up in the face of reality.
For good 2560 days an enthusiast of Prey via the Twitter/X account Has Prey 2 Been Announced Yet? he wondered if Prey 2 had finally been announced by Bethesda and Arkane Austin, always replying “no” every time to the question which was also in the name of the account. On May 7th, however, something changed: Microsoft announced the closure of Arkane Austin (as well as Tango Gameworks, Roundhouse Games And Alpha Dog Studios) and the Twitter/X page makes a different update: “It’s over“.
Has Prey 2 Been Announced Yet? finally published a final update, on day 2560, with which he announced the probable stop the account now that Arkane Austin no longer exists: “It’s not a dream, it’s a nightmare. Thanks for your recent support, however we are probably at the end of this account. Support Arkane Lyon and if you can also support your independent immersive sim creators“.
Published in 2017 on PC, PlayStation 4 And Xbox One, Prey did not prove to be a commercial success despite the enormous public acclaim it received and overall excellent reception from critics. Perhaps this is why Prey 2 never became a reality in all these years, with Arkane Austin then focusing on Redfall. And now a sequel to Prey seems destined to remain just a dream that will never become reality.
