Starfield wasn’t received very well, Todd Howard explains why

The hype around Starfield it died out a few months after release, as the game failed to leave its mark as it should have.

Also launched in the catalog of free games Of Xbox Game Pass (as well as on stores like Amazon), Bethesda’s sci-fi RPG has a good number of fans, but not enough.

It’s also true that Starfield is about to receive its first official expansion: the DLC Shattered Space it will be released in autumn, but it won’t be the only new thing coming.

Now, as also reported by IGNUS, Todd HowardBethesda’s head of development, commented on the mixed reception of Starfieldsuggesting that some of the criticism stems from the fact that the game is different from Fallout And Skyrim.

Starfield has in fact had mixed feedback from critics and players, so much so that the game currently has a “mixed” rating on Steam, with negative reviews highlighting the long loading times required for space travel, the “empty” planets and the lack of people or enemies to encounter.

In an interview given to Kinda Funny GamesHoward addressed the topic of the mixed reception of Starfield.

Good Todd began by underlining the stability Of Starfield at launch, which the studio was very pleased with. However, it seems that the game “suffered” because it was different from previous Bethesda games, Fallout And Skyrim primarily.

«The news is that it’s about a new IPso we know we’re going to do some things differently than we have in the past, and obviously we’ve had people who have loved the game both from a review perspective and from a less popular one.”Howard said.

«I never want to be in a world where this isn’t a great place to be in terms of critical reception, especially in a year where so many games have come out extraordinary

It’s still: «We see the feedback, we see a lot of players saying this is what I want from a Bethesda game, that is to explore a world in a certain way and Starfield hasn’t given that to me, I prefer the way it’s done in Fallout or The Elder Scrolls . And that’s totally understandable, in terms of ‘hey, this is a different experience.'”

Howard went on to talk about the “compromises” that Bethesda was willing to do to realize the fantasy of landing on a huge number of planets and exploring each of them in the game.

«I think for us, especially for me immersing myself in a science fiction game, I want to be able to land on all the planets, I want the game to tell us yes knowing that the content will be different from what we’ve seen in the past when explore a landscape”Howard said.

“And these are some of the compromises that we’ll make to make what we think makes a science fiction game like this, which is based on this kind of fiction and reality, to make it what it should be. Each franchise should be its own thing.”

We remind you that Bethesda’s blockbuster recently added some important features with update 1.10.31, with which Starfield And improved further.

But not only that: you know that the final mission of Starfield was it created by cutting some content, because there wasn’t enough time to do everything?
