Is Fallout 4 next-gen really “broken” on Xbox? Bethesda tries to clarify

L’next-gen update of Fallout 4 it certainly didn’t arrive without problems, also due – it must be said – to a poor clarity from Bethesda on the details of the update in question.

Just think of the problems that emerged when updating the game on PS5: on day one it was not available on PlayStation Plus Extra and only a few hours ago we received confirmation that users with the Plus Collection version will remain dry.

But the first alleged problems had also emerged for the Xbox version of Fallout 4 (you can find it on Amazon): according to several users, the graphics mode for Quality it had in fact suddenly stopped working.

Or so one might think, given that no real difference was visible compared to Performance mode, but according to Bethesda it’s actually perfectly normal.

In a new update published on its official profile on X, the development team clarifies that Quality mode on Xbox Series

«A quick note on the Fallout 4 next-gen update for Xbox Series In reality we are aiming for 4K60fps on all modes.

Performance mode is more aggressive in reducing settings to maintain this goal. We hope this clears up any confusion.”

In short, whether you choose Quality or Performance mode, the performance of Fallout 4 on Xbox Series they should be practically identicalgiven that we will never go beyond 4K and 60fps.

Simply, performance mode will make sure that the game always manages to maintain the right frame rate, lowering the graphic details as often as it deems necessary.

However, it must be specified that once again the confusion seems to have arisen from a lack of clarity: as reported by Tom Warren of The Verge, the changelog clearly specified that the quality mode should reach 40fps on a 120hz display, but 60fps should be possible at a 1440p resolution. In 4K, however, the goal had to be 30fps.

In short, what is involving Xbox Series X users and what happened on PS5 for the PlayStation Plus version is making us think that perhaps communication at Bethesda could be improved a little.

And let’s not forget the paradox for Steam Deck versions: Fallout 4 it was verified as perfectly compatible on Valve’s hybrid consoles after the next-gen update, but in reality it works worse than before.
