The new era of gaming has arrived: Unreal Engine 5.4 promises never-before-seen gaming experiences

The long awaited Unreal Engine 5.4 is finally available to all video game developers, bringing with it a series of significant changes and improvements.

Announced several weeks ago, this new update promises to offer a better image qualityhigher performance and a more optimized range of features.

One of the focal points of this update is the improvement of the TSR (Temporal Super Resolution) by Unreal Engine. This technology, which is an alternative to other solutions such as NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR and Intel XeSS, offers a distinctive advantage: it is integrated directly into Unreal Engine, without the need to add plugins of third parties.

Although the TSR has had gods quality problems in the pastcompared to other similar technologies, the developers of Unreal Engine have clearly invested a lot of resources to improve this aspect, as demonstrated by the video dedicated to the recent release of Unreal Engine 5.4.

Among the innovations introduced, however, the new function “History Resurrection“, which is added to High, Epic and Cinematic anti-aliasing. This feature aims to improve TSR stability while maintaining historical image data, thus minimizing artifacts and ensuring better overall visual performance.

Additionally, Unreal Engine 5.4 introduces the Experimental support for Vulkan Ray Tracingbringing the Vulkan API on par with DX12 and paving the way for ray tracing also on the platform Linux.

This update also includes a number of optimizations for shader compilation, reducing loading times of projects and improving overall rendering performance.

Programmers will have a series of new tools to better understand how TSR works and optimize the performance of your game.

Despite all these improvements, the decision to implement Unreal Engine 5.4 it will be up to the developers, who will be able to evaluate whether, and how, to take advantage of the new features offered by this version.

However, they can already be seen now the first fruits of this updatewith games, such as the recent Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, which exploit the potential of Unreal Engine 5.4 to offer increasingly immersive and engaging gaming experiences.
