Monica Cruz: “Penelope and I played at being stylists”

Now Monica and her Oscar sister really do it. They created a capsule for every woman with Geox

Sisters, artists, women. Monica and Penelope Cruz designed a capsule collection together for Geox spring/summer. Monica, a dancer, danced for years in Joaquin Cortes’ company: the stage, the costumes, her shoes are part of her life. Creativity is in the family DNA, she is a dancer and Penelope is an actress, Oscar winner and muse of Pedro Almodovar.

Monica, can you tell us how this collection was born?

“My sister and I have a lot of fun working together when we can and we have been very passionate about fashion since we were children. With Geox everything was very simple because we share the same philosophy: quality in both materials and technologies, and a contemporary style that suits to every woman.”

Shoes are among the accessories most loved by women, forced to deal with a life that is always on the run.

“Precisely for this reason we thought of models that would work well from the morning in the office until the evening, for a date with friends for an aperitif. We are all always in a hurry, but that doesn’t mean we have to neglect ourselves or be too formal”

When did you start to be passionate about fashion?

“Since we were children we enjoyed drawing models and creating outfits. I remember that we cut out photos from magazines and put together the various pieces to create a dress or suit. A passion that grew over time and on occasions like this also became a job. Creating It’s something that united us as children, and it still does now that we’re older. It was nice to collaborate, have meetings, discuss things.”

Did you exchange clothes?

“Of course! Our room was a creative laboratory, we had fun creating combinations, lending each other clothes and accessories.”

Has dance influenced your creativity?

“We dancers are very creative and we enjoy adapting the clothes we use for rehearsals. We cut the trousers, shorten them with scissors, we sometimes do the same with the leotards, the shirts. I have always liked it a lot, as I have I also loved the stage clothes.”

Is there a color that acts as a common thread in this collection?

“I like all colors but I’m not tied to any one in particular. Our collection is aimed at women who have very different needs: elegance, comfort, and also the desire for a bit of colour. Not all Practical accessories must necessarily be in neutral colors. You can dare with fuchsia or orange or an animal print.”

In short, it seems to understand that you have designed a collection that very much reflects your personality, of dynamic women who are attentive to current trends.

“Yes, I feel like a woman like many others. Who has to rush to pick up her daughter from school, then to the theater or to rehearsals. Penelope and I wanted to think about all women, all bodies, all ages. Women , stop”.
