One of the most used apps of all, WhatsApp, is not officially available on Apple Watch. Yet, there are many apps on the store that allow you to use the messaging client directly from your wrist. Among these WatchChat 2, one of the most used, as well as appreciated. Here’s how it works.
How to install
The first thing to do, of course, is to download the app on your Apple Watch. Once opened, the app will simply display a QR code, which must be scanned by the iPhone. The system is the classic one for extending WhatsApp from iPhone to an external device.
In practice, you will have to open WhatsApp on the iPhone, from here go to Settings and Connected Devices. From this screen simply choose “Connect a device”. After scanning the QR code on Apple Watchyou will find Whats App directly on your wrist.
Of course, the app doesn’t provide a one-to-one user experience identical to that on the iPhone. There are some limitations which of course are related to the small screen of the smart watch.
How does it work
For example, the WatchChat home screen 2 provides a list of only the last nine conversations (five in the free version). Not bad, however, if you consider that among these there will certainly be the contacts with whom you message most frequently. Among these 9, of course, there can also be groups. Note, however, that WatchChat 2 offers access to your entire contact list (only in the premium version), so it will be possible to start a new conversation with a friend, even if he is not among the last nine conversations.
By clicking on any conversation it will be possible to read the chat by simply scrolling with the digital crown. Not only that, WatchChat 2 also supports media, so you can open images, videos or listen to voice messages directly from your wrist. In this sense, therefore, the experience is truly satisfying.
Full keyboard
The app, however, has also added support for the full Apple Watch keyboard, therefore it will be possible to reply to messages directly from your wrist, as long as you have an Apple Watch 7, or later version. In the case of an older Apple Watch, however, the layout will be that of the in-app keyboard, which is slightly more awkward. In any case, whatever your Apple Watch, it will always be possible to respond via Siri or via Scribble, therefore drawing each single letter.
WatchChat 2 also fully supports voice messages. Not only will you, as an early player, be able to listen to voice messages you receive, but you will also be able to send audio notes.
Furthermore, WatchChat 2 supports the display of statuses (in the premium version), for those who never want to miss updates from their friends.
One of the most interesting aspects of WatchChat 2 is the fact that it can be used completely free of charge, as long as you give up the contact list and status display. The latter is certainly negligible, while the absence of the contact list could push most people to purchase the premium version, which unfortunately costs 15.49 euros.
