All Apple plans for Macs with the M4 chip

Apple has ambitious plans and a lot of haste for the launch of computers with M4, essential to chase the artificial intelligence train, but there is still a little space for M3.

This can be deduced from the roadmap of the new Macs revealed by the always well-informed Mark Gurman of Bloomberg after the previews of the last few days.

In his Power On newsletter, Gurman clarifies and points out Apple’s roadmap for Macs with the M4 chip.

Below are the Macs with M4 according to the roadmap provided by Gurman

  1. A low-end 14″ MacBook Pro with M4, expected around late 2024
  2. A 24″ iMac with M4, also expected around the end of 2024
  3. New top-of-the-range MacBook Pro 14″ and 16″ with chips M4 Pro/Max expected between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025
  4. A Mac mini in both configuration M4 And M4 Proscheduled for late 2024 and early 2025
  5. New MacBook Air 13″ and 15″ scheduled for spring 2025
  6. A Mac Studio with a top-of-the-line M4 chip expected in mid-2025
  7. A Mac Pro with M4 Ultra chip expected in late 2025

However, in the newsletter above he explains that Apple is internally testing a M3 Ultraa chip that should be suitable for Mac Studio and Mac Pro, and reports that it is almost certain that some Apple desktop machines will skip the M3 variant.

M3 Ultra could integrate up to 80 graphics cores

Gurman already reported last week about new Macs with M4 chips this year; this variant of the Apple Silicon chips should boast improvements regarding features related to Artificial Intelligence. There are three alleged variants of the M4: “Donan” (intended for entry level machines), “Good” (for high-end MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and Mac Studio) and “Hidra” (top of the range for Mac Pro). These code names should most likely become M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max.

The first details related to Apple’s AI integrated directly into future operating systems will be revealed at WWDC24, the event reserved for developers which starts on June 10th.
