Among its properties is X, what was once Twitter, one of the most widespread and used social networks in the world. An application that has numerous settings for a very satisfying user experience. But for optimal use it requires a subscription to a Premium versionwhich leaves many old users of the messaging and chat application perplexed.

Elon Musk, what program for phone calls

Speaking of X, one of its owner’s latest ideas is to use this application exclusively to receive and make telephone calls, definitively abandoning the telephone number. It is not the first time that Musk has made this announcement, but it remains unworkable, according to many commentators.

At the moment, in fact, only subscribers to the premium version of X can make audio and video calls. All users are allowed to receive calls, but for subscribers only you can call. Audio and video calls have been enabled on the X since last October, but with some obvious drawbacks limitations on full use. For example, the possibility of calling a person who does not follow the user, only if this person has previously sent a direct message to their interlocutor.

But there is another limit that makes Musk’s proposal unfeasible and which would create big problems for anyone who decides to follow it. In fact, using exclusively X instead of the telephone number, yes loses the ability to receive text messages as a method of receiving security codes from services that require two-level authentication. But not only.

According to numerous industry experts, text messages are still there substantial part of the communications. And convincing users to stop using them, giving up on telephone operators, is certainly not a simple thing. Although there is a way to replace text messages as valid tools for sending codes for authentication.

Another important aspect is linked to the use of text messages by US government bodies such as warning for adverse weather conditions or for emergency situations. Something similar also happens in Italy, for example, with the system It-Alert used by the Civil Protection in case of weather alerts.

The consideration is simple to move all emergency messaging to X and not only would it force institutions to also support all other services messaging for this type of communication. But at the moment there is no talk about it.
