The countdown is now over. There are less than 48 hours left until the official tool that allows you to be permanently deactivated Convert your Stadia controller from proprietary Wi-Fi mode to Bluetooth.

After a series of extensions, lhe time window seems destined to truly close at the end of 2025.

The tool was made available by Google in January 2023, coinciding with the closure of the cloud gaming service. The goal, of course, was to prevent Stadia’s only physical hardware from becoming unusable, allowing the pad to function as a standard wireless controller on PCs, smartphones, and other Bluetooth LE-compatible devices.

Over time, the deadline has been postponed several times, first to the end of 2023, then to 2024 and finally to December 31, 2025. Unlike previous occasions, however, there are no concrete signs of a further extension. The official page remains online, but still indicates the end of the current year as the deadline.

The conversion procedure takes a few minutes and permanently disables the controller’s Wi-Fi connectivity, replacing it with Bluetooth LE.

The already known limitations remain valid: no headphone jack, Google Assistant functions inactive and vibration not always guaranteed. On the other hand, the controller continues to be usable on Windows, macOS, ChromeOS and Androideven with platforms like Steam which have improved support in the meantime.

Anyone who still owns one or more out-of-date Stadia controllers therefore has very little time to preserve them from obsolescence. After closing the instrument, the only alternative will remain the use via USB cable, a condition that will make the controller less adaptable to various platforms, such as Android, for example.
