Peak is one of the great public successes of 2025. It is a “friendslop” that is, a small video game with low production values in which the focus is playing with friends in cooperative. Obviously, just as there are those who love it, there are those who hate it and more generally cannot stand the genre.
Nick Kaman, capo di Aggro Crab that is, the co-author team of Peak, then responded to those who hate friendslop, speaking to GamesRadar+.
The Peak team defends “friendslops”
Kaman explained that although these video games “do not respect the traditional indicators of a quality product“, some players simply want to spend time with friends and have fun and this is what “friendslop games prioritize”.
The studio head explains that friendslop doesn’t have polished graphics or a plot, but that they “don’t try to be the Game of the Year” as they “focus on the give players a specific experience” and also allow indie teams not to invest too high sums.
Everyone likes the cooperative phenomenon Peak, but should those who play alone buy it?
Kaman admits that as with any new fashionwhat happens is that low-quality clones appear and are published at a high rate. At the same time, however, remember that it’s easy and fun to hate, especially considering that a bad-sounding term like “friendslop” is used (which we can translate as ‘slop to play with friends’).
“There’s a strong desire to connect and be together in online worldsand friendslop games put this at the center of the experience,” added Kaman. “These are games that emphasize teamwork and communication, rather than simply testing individual skill in a group context.”
Finally, we would like to point out that the authors of Peak wanted to go on holiday after publication but…
