Novak Djokovic is at Wimbledon with a clear intention, Sinner petrified: here’s what happened before his debut
Here we are, the wait is over: it has finally started Wimbledon, the most awaited tournament of the year, third slam of the season staged, as always, on the grass of the All England Tennis Club in London.
There is also at the starting line Novak Djokovicwhose presence was in doubt until the last moment due to the knee problem that forced him to withdraw from Roland Garros and undergo surgery.
Nole arrived in London as number two in the world and as the second seed in the tournament. Obviously, he is not in the best form but he is still included by fans and professionals among the main contenders for the final victory. The other two, needless to say, are our Jannik Sinner and the reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz. But how many chances does the Serbian really have of competing for the title against the Italian and the Spaniard?
Wimbledon, Djokovic warns Sinner: statements before debut
It’s hard to say at the moment. We’ll have to wait a few more hours to get a clearer idea of the Serbian’s level of competitiveness. What is certain, however, is that the person directly concerned optimism and determination there is no shortage. This is evident from the words released by Djokovic himself in a press conference on the eve of the start of the tournament.
“I am 37 years old, maybe I should take fewer risks and I should have prepared especially for the Olympics. But I have the feeling that I won’t miss a Slam as long as I can play. I wouldn’t call it fear of missing out, just an incredible desire to play and compete. Then Wimbledon has always been a dream for me…”Djokovic said in his usual meeting with journalists, explaining the reasons that ultimately pushed him to play on the London pitch.
Not in perfect shape but certainly determined, therefore. And the final comment takes on even more the characteristics of a clear message to the enfant terrible of world tennis. “I didn’t come here to play a few rounds. I want to aim for the title“, the Serbian stated without hiding. In short, the challenge has been launched. All that remains is to wait to see if Djokovic will actually be able to express himself at a good level and if, possibly, it will be enough to score his eighth career Wimbledon.
