The second edition of the synthetic court volleyball for seniors organized at the Biorca Sports Center in Taceno did not disappoint expectations.
Two years after the last time, the synthetic turf of the external court saw the adults compete again in what was a super volleyball marathon that started at 10.30 in the morning and ended at 7.00 with the final.
At the starting line were eight teams from Valsassina, Lecco and Brianza for a total of 53 players assisted by three different referees.
In the first hours of play, the matches valid for decreeing the ranking of the two groups took place. In group A, the young players of VOLLEY PER CASO were in charge with 5 points, followed by PER ME E’ UGUALE with 4 points, in third place FC SORRISO VERTICALE with 3 points and closing the first round rankings I BOH DI MIRKO MONETA with 0 points.
Group B is more balanced, where NO PARKING dominate with 5 points, on the second step MASHA AND THE BEAR with 4 points, ALCOHOLICISTS ANONYMOUS third with 2 points and GENT DA’ ISEN fourth with 1 point won.
From 2.00 pm onwards the knockout matches took place, in the first quarter-final the mixed youth selection of VOLLEY PER CASO easily got rid of GENT DA’ ISEN (people from Esino Lario) with a clear 2-0 (16-7 15-8).
In the second quarter-final, the Valsassinesi of PER ME E’ UGUALE had to work hard to get the better of the Lecchesi of ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, a 2-0 with partial scores of 12-9 and 13-7.
In the third quarter-final, the Brianzoli team of BANQUET SOSTA overcame the Valsassinesi team of BOH DI MIRKO MONETA by 2 sets to 0 with scores of 15-7 and 12-8.
In the last quarter-final, the tie-break was served to the third Valsassinese team, FC SORRISO VERTICALE in fact only beat the Lecco team of MASHA E ORSO only in the third and decisive set, a 2-1 with scores of 12-9 9-14 6-11.
From 4.00 pm the semi-finals, spectacular matches well played by the four teams.
The first act was an absolute spectacle, the young players of VOLLEY PER CASO (Ballabio boys and mixed girls) beat FC SORRISO VERTICALE (Volley CS Cortenova open mixed) 2-1 at the end of a no holds barred match.
7-15 15-11 11-6 the partial scores in favor of the young Ballabiesi.
Subsequently there was an absolute balance between the NO PARKING and FOR ME IT’S THE SAME, a 2-0 in favor of the Brianzoli very tight with long and spectacular exchanges and with continuous reversals in front, 15-14 and 15-11 the scores.
At 5pm the final for third place, it is an all Valsassinese derby, with FC SORRISO VERTICALE on the pitch and FOR ME IT’S THE SAME.
The final is worthy of a grand final, the teams, despite the enormous fatigue accumulated, do not hold back and give life to a super match with stellar attacks and scary monster blocks, the partials are never “on ice”, we go away point after point without ever seeing a real escape.
After the 25-22 of the first set in favor of PER ME E’ UGUALE, FC SORRISO VERTICALE responded with pride and managed, at the end of a super comeback, to win the second set with the last and decisive point (the twenty-fifth) after having reached 24 all.
The tie is also balanced and the final 15-11 in favor of FOR ME IT’S THE SAME proves it.
Let’s now move on to the match report, the final that everyone should have seen, the one between the Brianza players of DIVIETO DI PARSO and the young players of VOLLEY PER CASO. In the first set the Brianza players do well and always keep their noses ahead, the young Ballabiesi struggle and mess up at the net, a Ilaria Mariani in great shape repeatedly bombards the opponents’ 9 meters, Luca Farina is a sniper and under the wise direction of Paola Colombo doesn’t miss a shot, Sposetti and Este defend what comes and the first set is deservedly won by the “less young” by 25-21.
The second set is of a completely different nature, Rognoni and De Capitani return to the field “devilish”, Pasquali, Panzero and Amati too and under the direction of Cerioli they begin to take aim making practically very few mistakes, the volleyball is truly high level, there are long exchanges, impressive attacks where the ball never falls, the youngsters start well and finish better winning the set 25-20 thus reaching the tie taking the final to the decisive tie-break; just like two years ago, it will be the set at 15 to decree the new champions of Taceno.
In the last set the fatigue makes itself felt but all 12 athletes on the pitch hold firm giving life to an epic finale, the Brianzoli mess up a little too much and lose concentration, the younger ones benefit from this as they further raise the level by bombing as much as I can, especially when serving with poisonous jokes that yield more than one ace.
We thus arrive towards the end, after a foul in the second line attack by the Brianzoli the ball goes to the service of the young Ballabiesi, serve, opponent’s construction and attack defended excellently by the youngest who reconstruct the action that will then prove decisive for the final 15-9.
Sacrosanct applause to all these guys who didn’t disappoint us today, honoring one of the most beautiful sports in the world in the best possible way.
At the end of the evening, thanks from the official speaker of the event Guido Dini Ciacci to all the participants, to the first three classified teams, to the organizing staff, to the Biorca Sports Center of Taceno, to the referees and to Marco Marongiu, this year too the tournament was a spectacle, the weather was kind to the volleyball players, no one got hurt and there was a lot of fun and the final smiles are proof of this.
