Matteo Berrettini goes hunting for three of a kind Stuttgart after the victories of 2019 and 2022. Today, in fact, the Italian will take the field in the ATP 250 final on German grass (not before 1pm, we will have to wait for the doubles which will start at 11am). After eliminating Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets in the semifinals (6-4, 6-0), Berrettini faces the 22-year-old Briton Jack Drapernumber 40 in the world, who in the other semi-final defeated his American peer in two sets (6-3, 6-3) Brandon Nakashima (70).
Berrettini moves up the rankings
The challenge between the two will be unprecedented. In fact, there are no precedents on the circuit between the 28-year-old Roman and the 22-year-old Briton, who still have no titles under his belt while Berrettini has won eight (as mentioned, two in Stuttgart). With the successes obtained in the German tournament, the Italian has climbed the ranking: he started the week as number 96 in the world with 635 points under his belt and has now already gained 30 positions, placing himself in 65th place. But how will the ranking improve in case of victory against Draper? By winning the Stuttgart tournament, Berrettini will earn 250 points overall and will become the new number 55 in the world with 880 points, even surpassing Lorenzo Sonego (now 57th with 861 points). Matteo would thus become the sixth Italian behind Jannik Sinner (number one), Lorenzo Musetti (number 30), Matteo Arnaldi (number 34), Luciano Darderi (number 37 or number 34 if he wins the Perugia Challenger, overtaking Arnaldi), and Flavio Cobolli (number 49).
