The first reaction is one of disbelief, the second one of amazement, the third one of absolute bewilderment. But will it be true? Is it possible that a city councilor can express himself in this way and with these tones? Reading Il Giorno it’s all true. The Fratelli d’Italia councilor Paolo Roccatagliata, referring to the hated cyclists, expressly says: “For you who end up under the trucks and I’m sorry, but not too much.”
It would be enough to stop here, it would be more than enough. Instead he moves forward, and his weak thought becomes very weak and thoughtless. «As you know – he adds in his speech – I hate bicycles».
End of the first half, as the Milanese newspaper explains, but the next day the politician doesn’t move back an inch, doesn’t backpedal, doesn’t even choose to do a bit of substitution, he sinks the shot, as if he were a pedal prodigy. «I was very pissed off. And when someone is angry he says things he shouldn’t say. That said, cyclists are looking for it. If you take a bicycle in a city like Milan where people travel by car for work, you know what you risk. If you then do it ‘dirty’, perhaps running a red light or going the wrong way, even more so. I see how they behave: I see that they don’t respect the rules.”
In short, his enlightened thought is clear: don’t you respect the rules? it’s right that they put you down. There is no doubt that urban and non-urban cyclists are to blame, but the meaning of the words of this thoroughbred politician leaves us dismayed.
«But we know that they exploit everything – the FdI representative replies the following day -. As we know, seven, if not eight, out of ten cyclists vote for the left and therefore it is normal for them to always side with bicycles. Anyway, that’s okay, they didn’t understand that people are tired of these fucking cycle paths. And in fact we saw how the elections went. Go ahead, we will continue to take thirty percent.”
So we also learn that cyclists have a well-defined political connotation, so being left-wing they must be doubly destroyed: they eat children, we drag them down. All reasoning from an expert politician, from a budding statesman: does grass have anything to do with it?
