Gianmarco Lucchesi’s move to Toulon ahead of the 2024/2025 season was no longer a secret, but has become official.

The agency representing the player has in fact announced the agreement between the Italian hooker, whose contract with Benetton is expiring, and the transalpine club. It will be a two-year contract that will bind Lucchesi to his new team, until 30 June 2026.

After persistent rumors in recent weeks, head coach Marco Bortolami recently confirmed the player’s imminent departure.

In Toulon Lucchesi will be able to find space as soon as he arrives. The team’s starting hooker this season is Teddy Baubigny, born in 1998, a player in national orbit since his first steps as a professional but never definitively risen to international prominence. He is the captain of the team.

Behind him is Jack Singleton, an excellent English hooker who arrived from Gloucester at the start of the season. However, Singleton is on loan and his stay at the club could be limited in time.

Also in the squad is Anthony Etrillard, a 31-year-old veteran of the club, who however has not played since February 2023. After having undergone surgery on his Achilles tendon, Etrillard had numerous complications which delayed his return and even raised the fear of a early withdrawal. His future as a player remains to be seen.

Finally, the young Yanis Boulassel, born in 2002, played almost the entire season on loan at Beziers and it seems that he will remain at the ProD2 club next season too.
