Carlos Di Lonardo in B at Alto Canavese

Argentinian by birth but now a native of Biella for over 20 years: coach Carlos Di Lonardo is undoubtedly one of the leading figures in Biella volleyball. His first experience, for three seasons from 2002, on the bench of Virtus Biella between series C and series B2, the last of four years in SPB Biella also here between regional and national championships. In between, various other benches both in the Biella area and far from home, from Lombardy to the Spanish Serie A and the “his” national team, coach of the Junior and Senior women’s teams of Argentina.

Born in 1963, in the next sporting year it will be his 42nd season. Once again outside Biella, although not that far away. After this year’s bitter relegation with SPB, the coach will remain in Serie B and lead Alto Canavese, a club based in Cuorgnè in the Turin area, with ambitious objectives. This year the team finished in 3rd place in group A and aims to improve.

Of the new adventure he says: «My life and that of my family has been here in Biella for some time now, I will have to travel a few kilometers but I love this sport and I have always been used to traveling, so I will face this new change with great serenity. I had some important proposals (Malnate men’s in B, and Yamamay Busto for the youth sector, ed.) and in the end I chose Alto Canavese: it is a club where I believe you can work well and which has a “human” part that I liked her a lot from the first meetings. They have been protagonists in Serie B for a few years and want to try to move up to A3. All this is very very stimulating.”

On “il Biellese” on Friday 13 June, a long interview where he talks and talks about himself. We are waiting for you at the newsstands.
