In truth, respecting the prediction dictated by the initial group ranking, built with the points already set aside in the regular season and “clock” phase. But the matches, all of them, must still be honored and Toro will reach the Cento arena with the desire not to disfigure himself and with his mouth still sweet from the wonderful emotions of Wednesday night. “The away match in Cento is an unusual one – says coach Luca Dalmonte – considering the result achieved for both teams. The objective of this group was achieved for us and for them. There will be forty minutes of play in the awareness of everything included. Obviously there is a professional seriousness to be respected and we will do it.”
The opponent of the moment is very respectable, capable of overcoming in the end the difficulties of a tournament that in those parts they imagined to be of a different nature. Something went wrong for a roster built on the solid basis of the Italian Cup final and the second place in the regular season of last championship. Playing for survival at the end of the season is not what the club and coach Mecacci expected and, in truth, neither did many of the experts. Men of the caliber of Toscano, Mussini and the two Americans Archie and Mitchell (the latter, however, out due to injury in the last part of the season), the excellent Bruttini, Ladurner and Palumbo, but above all Delfino, make up a collective that has paid also the placement in the Red group, undoubtedly more difficult than the other. The final rush of the “clock” phase was decisive, with Rimini and especially Cividale good at putting the Ferrara team behind them and condemning them to the poule.
Cento and Nardò met in the regular season and in both cases the issue was resolved in overtime. In the first leg Nardò became a corsair passing 93-94, in the return Cento returned the “favour” 79-86. Two very balanced and hard-fought matches. The third act of the season was no less contested, in the fifth first leg of the survival group, with Nardò victorious 83-78.
Sella-Hdl will be played on Sunday 9 June at the Milwaukee Dinelli Arena in Cento (Fe). Tap-off at 6pm. The referees of the match will be Mattia Eugenio Martellosio from Milan (Milan), Fabio Bonotto from Ravenna (Ra) and Lorenzo Lupelli from Aprilia (Lt).
