Road closures and parking bans for the Tour de France in Bologna

Bologna, 6 June 2024 – After Cremonini lightsin Bologna and San Luca it will be the time of cycling champions: on Sunday 30 June one of the three stages (two in Emilia Romagna) which inaugurate the Tour de France.

Of course, this will involve a new revolution for trafficwith a burst of closed roads and parking bans along the path composed of 18 and a half kilometers which the most famous cyclists in the world will ride twice.

The entry route into the city

The streets of the entrance route into the city up to the beginning of the double circuit (via Alberto Mario, Orsola Mezzini roundabout, via Alberto Mario, via della Battaglia, via Card. Gil Alvarez Carrillo de Albornoz, via Benedetto Marcello, via Torino, Caduti roundabout Italians in the Peace Mission, via Po, via Emilia Levante, via Giuseppe Mazzini, piazza di Porta Maggiore) will be closed to traffic from 12.30pm to approximately 4.30pm on Sunday 30 June. The roads will be reopened after the race and official vehicles have passed.

The double city circuit

All the streets of the city route (Viali, Irnerio, Mille, Marconi, Piazza Malpighi, Sant’Isaia, Andrea Costa, Irma Bandiera, San Luca, Montalbano, Casaglia, Saragozza Fuori Porta) will be closed from 12.30 to 18.30 on Sunday 30 June. As well as the internal ring of avenues in the stretch that goes from Porta Saragozza to Porta San Donato, passing through Porta San Mamolo, Azeglio, Santo Stefano, Mazzini, San Vitale.

Parking ban from Saturday to 6pm

On all the streets involved in the route (both those entering the city and on the double circuit) there is a Tow Away Zone to guarantee the safety of cyclists and people who will watch the race on the roadside, starting from 6pm on Saturday 29 June until the end of the event, therefore approximately until 6.30pm on Sunday 30 June.

The Irnerio-Indipendenza arrival area

Different times and measures will instead affect the arrival area: via del Pallone and the stretch of via Irnerio which goes from via del Pallone to via Indipendenza, which will host the finish line in front of Piazza VIII Agosto, they will in fact be closed to traffic starting from 8pm on Saturday 29 June, until 10pm on Sunday 30 June. While the Do not stop it will already start on this road from 2pm on Saturday.

The remaining stretch of via Irnerio (from Porta San Donato to via del Pallone/via Alessandrini) will be closed to traffic from 6am to 10pm on Sunday 30 June. Same times for the stretch of via Indipendenza from the intersection with via Irnerio to the one with via Rizzoli/Ugo Bassi, a stretch which will also see the temporary suspension of the preferential bus lane and the suspension of the T-days pedestrian area.

The stretch of via Indipendenza, from the intersection with via Irnerio to the avenues instead it will be closed to vehicular traffic from 12.30 to 18.30 on Sunday 30 June. Restrictions on vehicular traffic will also affect all converging roads in via Irnerio and via Indipendenza.

Over all Independence Street (from piazza XX Settembre to via Rizzoli) there will also be a ban on parking – forced removal on the entire road surfaceboth sides – except official vehicles following the event, recognizable by a specific mark issued specifically by the organization.

Via di San Luca, via di Monte Albano, via di Casaglia

Via di San Luca will be closed to traffic from 5am to 6.30pm on Sunday 30 June. It will not be possible for pedestrians to get on glass bottles or containers and the organizers assisted by the police will be able to interrupt the influx of people at any time to reach the maximum capacity.

Street of Monte Albano it will be closed from 12.30 to 18.30 on Sunday 30 June, and in any case from 6 to 12.30 it will only be accessible in the direction of Via di Casaglia. The parking ban will be in force from 2pm on Saturday 29 June and will also apply to bus stands and car parks usually used by visitors to the sanctuary.

Street of Casaglia it will be closed from 12.30pm to 6.30pm and the parking ban on the entire stretch from via Saragozza to via di Monte Albano will be in force from 6pm on Saturday 29 June.

Access to the city’s hospitals, Bellaria, Maggiore, Rizzoli and Sant’Orsola-Malpighi will always be allowed.

On the occasion of the arrival of the Tour de France stage, Sunday 30 June, public transport will always be guaranteed in Bologna, albeit with the necessary temporary route changes of the lines that circulate on the roads involved in the cycling race.

Soon all the measures related to the changes to the lines will be published on the dedicated Tper website.

Along all the streets crossed by the race, for safety reasons there will be bins removed or moved of waste disposal starting from Saturday 29 June. The bins will be placed, where possible, in the streets adjacent to the route. Given the reduced availability of bins, it is therefore suggested to deliver the waste by Friday June 28th or starting Monday July 1st.

Parking is permitted only on Sunday 30 June some streets in the Certosa area to allow the public to then reach Colle della Guardia (San Luca) on foot. In particular, it is possible to park (only on the right edge of the road) in: viale MK Gandhi, via Tolmino, via Pietro Nenni, via Giuseppe Saragat, via Palmiro Togliatti, via Tadolini, via Sanzio, via Cassini.

The city car parks can also be used (here is the map).

The Antistadio car park in via Andrea Costa (in front of the Dall’Ara) will be reserved for campers and caravans who will travel to the city to watch the race and who will book on the dedicated form which will soon be online. It will therefore not be usable by residents or from cars for the whole day of Saturday 29 June and the whole day of Sunday 30 June. The parking ban will be in force starting from 9am on Saturday 29 June.

In the main parking lots, thanks to an agreement between the Municipality and RideMovi, bike sharing bikes will welcome the fans arriving in Bologna. In detail:

  • Tanari: 100 bikes inside the car park;
  • Riva Reno: 100 bikes in the clearing above the car park;
  • Fiera Aldo Moro car park: 100 bikes;
  • Station and bus station area: 200 bikes in the various points already active.
