Bolelli and Vavassori in the final at Roland Garros: Bopanna and Ebden beaten

The first Italian final at Roland Garros is served. Simone conquers her Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori who reach the last act of the men’s doubles tournament. The Azzurri beat the n. pair in the semi-final. 2 seeding formed by Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden: 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 the score in favor of the Azzurri in just under two hours of play. The “revenge” of the Australian Open final, the confirmation of what we saw in Rome when Simone and Andrea managed to beat the Indian and the Australian. Compared to the match at the Foro Italico, however, it was a more complicated match for Italians. Having won the first set by recovering a break from behind, the Azzurri fell back in the second set, the one played best by Bopanna and Ebden. In the third set, however, the quality (and physical resistance) of Bolelli and Vavassori came out and ended the match with two breaks ahead. A historic result because an Italian couple had not been in the final in Paris since 1959.

The final on Saturday

At the second consecutive Slam final after the Australian Open, Bolelli and Vavassori will return to the field on Saturday. The Azzurri will only know their opposing pair on Friday: they will be Granollers/Zeballos, n. 1 in the world, or Arevalo/Pavic, n. 9 of the seeding. It will be the sixth Slam final for an Italian men’s doubles: the record in the five previous ones is two victories (Pietrangeli/Sirola at Roland Garros 1959 and Bolelli/Fognini at the Australian Open 2015) and three defeats.
