“Martin came in as if I wasn’t there”

At the end of the Le Mans race, Bastianini made a comment influenced by the emotion of the moment, but which still reflects the current state of things. The Rimini native had highlighted the misfortune in not being able to put together all the pieces of his talent for the purposes of a positive result, a dynamic that unfortunately also recurred at Mugello, where the speed shown in practice and on the first lap was canceled out by a race contact with Jorge Martin, who ousted him from the race following a crash. A difficult maneuver to interpret in which the two riders touched following an overtaking by Bastianini, who then went wide and ended up colliding with the Pramac rider while returning to the trajectory.

Bastianini’s regret: “Without the crash I could have tried to follow Bagnaia”

Once again it was external conditioning that hindered the success of Enea Bastianini’s race: “It’s a shame that the race ended so early, today we were very fast, which is also why I wanted to overtake Martin straight away. The problem is that Martin entered the corner trying to overtake me, as if I wasn’t there. I still haven’t been able to go to the race commissioners to talk about what happened, I haven’t even spoken with Martin. In any case, if the maneuver does not require a penalty, it is certainly very much at the limit.”

As explained by the Ducati rider himself, there didn’t seem to be a lack of competitiveness, so much so that it pushed him to finally aim for podium results: “If I hadn’t fallen maybe I would have been able to fight or at least try to keep up with Bagnaiabut having only done two laps I can’t know. Tomorrow I certainly expect a different race, it will be more demanding also because the front tire will wear a lot, we will have to try to preserve it very well. SIt will be important to start well like I did today, let’s hope we can do it and give joy to the Italian public who were wonderful today. For tomorrow the important thing is to stay focused since the race will be much more important than what happened today, so I don’t have to think about it.”
