Italian GP, Morbidelli finds redemption in the Sprint

Franco Morbidelli he managed to redeem himself in the Sprint of the Italian GP MotoGP. The Pramac team rider actually managed to gain fourth position, which currently equals his best result of the season.

The day of redemption

It’s a Franco Morbidelli finally satisfied with what we saw today in the Sprint of the Italian GP MotoGP. In the home race, the Team Pramac rider managed to secure an excellent fourth place which for the Roman represents the best result of the season on a par with Jerez where he was classified in the same position. A result that also arrived thanks to the fall of teammate Jorge Martin, who crashed when there were only a few laps left to the finish line. An undoubtedly positive performance for Morbidelli who capitalized on the start from sixth position and who finally seems to have found the feeling with his Ducati GP-24. This certainly helps both from a market perspective but above all in terms of morale, after having had a rather complicated start to the season which often saw him outside the top-10.

Now he will have to confirm himself in the race on Sunday, to silence the criticisms against him. A positive result in the Italian GP could in fact revive Morbidelli’s prices, now considered by everyone to be on the verge of leaving from the Pramac team and perhaps also from MotoGP. The Roman rider also showed excellent race pace today and if he were to be able to replicate it tomorrow we could certainly see him among the protagonists in the long race. Then there will be testing on Monday at Mugello, and this could be an excellent opportunity for Franco Morbidelli to improve his affinity with the bike and relaunch himself as a protagonist in the second part of the season.

Morbidelli’s statements

At the end of the MotoGP Italian GP Sprint, Franco Morbidelli declared:

“It was important to finish the race just as it will be important to finish tomorrow’s race. Today I responded to the temptation of the podium with more intelligence than in Barcelona, bringing home an important result for me and for the team. Let’s see how we are tomorrow, if I can get a better start and be up front we’ll see what I feel like doing. We are aware that our level is very high, you can see it both in the speed in testing and in the improvements we have made since the beginning of the year, when I didn’t know the bike at all”.

Morbidelli managed to set the track record this morning, even if for just ten minutes:

“Today was a great day for this too, I managed to do 1:44 at Mugello which is an incredible time. By 10 minutes it was the fastest lap in the circuit’s history. We are quite close but this is an important moment to be solid. We are looking for solidity even if the speed is already very good.”

Where would Morbidelli be today without the accident at the beginning of the year? Franco responds like this:

“Things are like this now, it was nice to try to do everything quickly and we made up for a big gap in knowledge thanks to the team and the whole team who explained to me well how to best manage this bike. From here on I only think about getting good results and having fun because the championship is none of our business after the injury this winter.”

The Pramac rider then concludes with an opinion on today’s race:

“For today’s race I give myself a seven. There is still room for victory, for the bike and the team at 10”.
