“Doping has existed since the dawn of time”

Everyone has thespectacular feat by Tadej Pogacar at the Giro d’Italia: a unique domination for the Slovenian of the UAE Emirates who won six stages and held the Pink Jersey for twenty days, triumphing in Rome with almost ten minutes of advantage over the first of his pursuers, Daniel Martinez.

The fans were all thrilled with the shots of the strongest rider in the world who is now chasing the masterpiece: the Giro-Tour double which has been missing since 1998 when Marco Pantani achieved it.

Some, probably envious, did not like this demonstration of strength from the Slovenian phenomenon. In fact, some senseless accusations regarding doping have arrived from France. One of them was Philippe Saudé, former runner of the 80s. His words to RMC: “I’ve seen it on the climbs I’ve climbed too. It’s incredible what Pogacar has done. He is not tired, he goes up laughing. Soon we’ll have to put hay bales on the climbs”. And he adds: “Doping has existed since the dawn of time, but these are not the same products used now. And what will happen in the next few years is scary.”

The former Festina coach also expressed his opinion on X Antoine Vayer: “It’s inhumane. The other top runners in the world have 10-15% less watts and are no longer trying to keep up. If we are neither complicit nor intellectually dishonest and if we are lucid, we grasp the extent of the underlying deception that we know all too well in this sport and in some of its actors who kill the virtuous, who are numerous, but remain silent due to silence of the world of cycling.”
