An enormous moving “human” bicycle, yellow in colour, has appeared in Piazza Castello in Turin. This morning the creation of a moment with a strong visual impact which involved around a hundred people from Turin, wearing strictly yellow t-shirts, who met at first light to compose the spectacular choreography in homage to the Tour de France which on 1 July will arrive in Turin.
A weekend of celebrations for the yellow race
The flash mob marks the start of the weekend of celebrations for the yellow race, as part of the ToRide program of events with which the city is celebrating its passion for cycling in an unrepeatable year, characterized by the arrival of the two main races at international stages (Giro d’Italia and Tour de France).
The party will continue on the afternoon of Saturday 1 June. At 3pm the parade will start from Palazzo Civico with musicians and jugglers on two wheels which, crossing the streets and squares of the centre, will involve Turin residents and tourists with musical performances and cycling-themed street shows. This is the route: via Palazzo di Città, piazza Castello, via Roma, via Maria Vittoria, via Bonafous, piazza Vittorio Veneto, along Po Armando Diaz, corso Cairoli and arrival at Parco del Valentino.
Furthermore, under the porticoes of Piazza Palazzo di Città, the exhibition “Beauty on a bicycle” can be visited since yesterday, an exciting story in images, curated by the Historical Archive of the City, on the daily use of the bicycle in Turin throughout history. . In homage to the colors of the Tour de France this evening the Mole Antonelliana and the bridges along the Po will be lit up in yellow.
On Sunday 2 June the party continues with the concert “From Beethoven to Bartali”, with songs performed by the Arsenale della Pace Youth Orchestra, directed by Mauro Tabasso, and the special participation of the musicteller Federico Sacchi. For all those who managed to secure the free tickets made available online, the appointment is at 3pm at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory.
