Wolff, no hard feelings for Hamilton
When Lewis Hamilton he confessed to him that he would go to the Ferrari in 2025, Toto Wolff’s first reaction was that of disbelief. Once the initial shock of seeing one of the primary protagonists of the Mercedes epic gone, the Austrian team principal wished the seven-time world champion the best for his adventure in Maranello, without holding a grudge for his professional choice. A choice that could prove to be a winning one for Wolff.
Wolff’s words
“If Ferrari is able to give Lewis a competitive car, he can win a world championship, there is no doubt“, Wolff said in the words reported by the news agency PA.
“I will always have a personal relationship with Lewis and look back on the great moments, professional and personal. When Lewis moves to Ferrari he will become an opponent, but I will always wish him happy days“, he added. “He told me he would stay, then he decided to go. But people change their minds and circumstances change: opinions must be respected and I have no hard feelings“.
The renewal and then the farewell
Hamilton had in fact signed a two-year contract renewal (or rather, a 1+1) which would have tied him to Mercedes until the end of 2025. Evidently Sir Lewis understood that not even for the next season the Brackley team would be able to provide him with a competitive car, instead receiving much more convincing arguments from Ferrari: a scenario that becomes increasingly credible, now that the Ferrari has won two of the first eight GPs and has moved considerably closer to Red Bull.
