Lto Formula 1 archives the eighth seasonal event, the most glamorous of the calendar, the Monaco Grand Prix 2024. The 78 laps of the Monegasque race were pure suffering for all the drivers they had to face two starts given the red flag caused by an accident involving Sergio Perez, Nico Hulkenberg and Kavin Magnussen; not only that, other contacts put Esteban Ocon’s Alpine out of action, too optimistic with an overtaking at the entrance of the tunnel on teammate Pierre Gasly, and the third position of Carlos Sainz. The Scuderia Ferrari native from Madrid suffered a puncture after contact with the rear of Oscar Piastri’s McLaren at Santa Devota, he was able to resume the race in his initial starting position thanks to the decision of the Race Direction of the starting grid exactly in the qualifying order.

LThe race of the Madrilenian from the Maranello team seems to have ended prematurely due to the puncture. But thanks to starting grid with the starting order the same as when the traffic lights first went out, Sainz was able to get back into the fight from third position, behind Oscar Piastri and the winner, Charles Leclerc. The number #55 was also blessed with the possibility of being able to replace the tires during the red flag, fitting a new set of hard tyres, thus also eliminating the obligation to change the compound. Sainz then had to manage his race pace, remaining in the exhaust of the Australian team papaya to help the strategy of his teammate Leclercand defending themselves from attacks by Lando Norris. The Briton had, in fact, the wildcard of a free pit stop, i.e. without losing position, given the gap between him and George Russell. If he had fitted a new compound, the number #4 could have attacked Sainz’s third position.

“The start was really at the limit. I had a bad moment on the first lap, but luckily it passed quickly after I was given third place back” He admitted Carlos Sainz at the end of the 78 laps. “After that the race pace was good, as we expected, but it was impossible to overtake on these roads. I’m delighted to see Charles win his home Grand Prixespecially with the way he drove all weekend. I’m happy to share this podium with him, everyone in the team deserved this result. I tried to put pressure on Oscar, but there was no margin to try to overtake” concluded the Scuderia Ferrari driver.
