Ben Rothenberg, harsh attack against Alexander Zverev: “He shouldn’t play”

A Roland Garros with Berlin in mind. After the fairytale weekend experienced last week, with the success at the Master 1000 in Rome, the next few days will be quite busy for Alexander Zverev. The 27-year-old German, involved in the first round of the Parisian slam against Rafa Nadal, the undisputed king of the major on clay, will also have other things to think about.

In fact, the trial for the accusations of domestic violence and abuse brought against the world number four by his ex-girlfriend and mother of his daughter Brenda Patea will begin on May 31st in the German capital. Zverev rejected the charges, opposing the order of the Berlin district court which sentenced him to pay a fine of 450 thousand euros.

The German revealed at a press conference in Paris that he felt calm and was confident about the outcome of the trial. The well-known American journalist Ben Rothenberg also expressed his opinion on the topic, revealing his opinion on his social channels.

Ben Rothenberg’s post

Rothenberg, who became famous following the thorny issue of Novak Djokovic’s vaccination, declared that he totally disagreed with the German tennis player’s participation in the French slam, as he is involved in an ongoing trial.

“Nightmare draw for Roland Garros pitting 14-time champion Rafa Nadal against world number 4 Alexander Zverev. There are clear and convincing arguments why Zverev should not play tennis during his ongoing criminal trial in Berlin“ the American tennis player wrote on X.

The American then added: “Zverev received a criminal penalty order of 450,000 euros from a Berlin court because he was convinced of his guilt. Zverev is appealing that ruling: in any normal job it would be suspended pending the outcome of the trial”.
