F1, GP Monaco 2024, Perez: “The negotiations for the renewal with Red Bull are ongoing, but I don’t want to think about it at the moment” – Formula 1

Formula 1 is ready to return to the track for the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix. Here are Sergio Perez’s expectations for the eighth round of the season and his future in Red Bull

May 23, 2024

Lhe Italian parenthesis of the Imola race is now behind us and the Formula 1 is already ready to return to the track this weekend with the eighth round of the season, the most glamour of the entire calendar, the Monaco Grand Prix 2024. The narrow streets of Monte Carlo are always the venue for a great show every year, where the talent of the driver comes to the fore because of the courage to race at high speeds, even if lower than in other races, with the walls at close range. Winning here, in Monaco, means entering the history of the Circus, and he succeeded in 2022. We are talking about Sergio Perez who can’t wait to get on track to definitively put an end to the unfortunate weekend in Italy, which ended in eighth place.

THEThe Mexican from Red Bull is called upon to replicate what he did two years ago, that is, win the Monaco Grand Prix, and not what happened in 2023, a race that ended outside the points zone and with numerous contacts. To bring home this result, it will be essential for him to obtain the best starting position to be able to effectively fight for the top step of the podium and regain second place in the drivers’ standings, behind leader Max Verstappen, having been overtaken by Charles Leclerc. “For this weekend I know that most of the work will be done on Saturday with qualifying. If you are not on the front row you have a low chance of winning the race. For me it is important to be able to be at the front, at most in the second row. It will be a mix with the Ferraris and the McLarens, but at the same time I expect there won’t be any big surprises because all the top teams are able to put together the perfect lap in qualifying” he admitted to the microphones of AutoMoto.it, present in Monte Carlo with our Diletta Colobo.

I don’t think this race will be like Imola. For me it was a difficult event and I think it is important for this season of mine to always do well I’m still in great shape though. I am happy with the car and therefore also competitive. There is no reason to be worried at the moment. I will have to be very focused but I am very positive for this weekend. It doesn’t matter how last year’s race or other events went, now it’s important to focus on the present. McLaren and Ferrari are getting very close by bridging the gap with updates. We will do the same to defend ourselves. It will be a decidedly fascinating continuation of the season” continued the Mexican.

Qhis race in the heart of the Principality will be crucial for the future of Sergio Perez. His contract will expire at the end of the season but the negotiations with Red Bull have not yet come to fruition. To confirm his seat with the Milton Keynes team, the Mexican will have to continue the positive streak that began this year, despite the ups and downs as seen in Imola last week. “It’s not about a percentage or anything like that. As long as you don’t sign, it doesn’t matter how close you are to doing so. Nothing has been done yet. However, right now I’m not focused on my contract, but on this weekend here in Monte Carlo. I know the tNegotiations are underway and at some point we will know, you will be the first to know. The most important thing now is not to think about two years, one year or three years, but this weekend, especially about qualifying on Saturday. This is my main goal.”
