MotoGP 24, the best ever despite some critical issues

The review of the latest edition of the official game of the MotoGP world championship

The one that arrived on the shelves and in digital stores is most likely the best version ever in the last 10 years of MotoGP. The 2024 chapter released by the very Italian Milestone worked on the physics of the motorbikes, however leaving out what remain the two “weak” points of the game, i.e. the contents and the artificial intelligence.

The driver market in career mode is the main novelty of this season. The possibility of previewing, even in a virtual way, possible market moves that we could also see in reality excites us enthusiasts a lot. In the career mode we also find intermediate goals and objectives to be achieved which stimulate us to do better to improve our performance. I would have preferred a career that allows the gamer to choose where to start and in which mode, while in the game the start takes place in a Moto3 team at the end of the season.

However, MotoGP 24 remains a game that essentially does not allow errors. Riding (above all) a MotoGP which (well done Milestone here) is affected by the aerodynamics causing the bike to also be “heavier” or more stable is not easy. Despite the various aids with the possibility of “tailoring” our gaming experience, taking a Ducati or especially a Honda to the limit is not immediate. Flashbacks are vital in our track experience, as is finding the ideal setup in the various sessions throughout the race weekend. Once you’ve found the right compromise, everything becomes more fun, and grinding out km after km is a more than satisfying experience.

Personally I found it very fun to ride the Moto2 Triumphs without any electronic aid but very “sincere” when riding. Obviously, the Moto3 and MotoE in the 2024 versions are also present within the game. The question of content, very sparse, compared to the historical binges of the last few years of MotoGP remains a theme. The hope is to have an updated 2024 version during the season with something that adds gaming experiences. Unfortunately, all this never arrived in the previous version, so we’ll see if Milestone has the desire to change its tone.

The AI unfortunately remains the game’s biggest problem. The races are difficult to read, both in the gaps left even by the best drivers (often too high) and in the aggressiveness of the opposing drivers. The feeling is that regardless of the level of experience chosen, during the race there are peaks in difficulty that are too variable. It is also rather complicated to understand the difference between the times obtained during practice compared to those in the race, which are too often unbalanced and in favor of the latter.

Also present in the game is MotoGP Academy, which is used to learn the circuits as well as mini-tutorials with gameplay for some features such as flag to flag (when you have to change bikes due to variable weather conditions). The graphics section is very interesting, especially in the details of the motorbikes, reproduced to perfection, particularly in the aerodynamic details.

MotoGP remains an interesting chapter for fans of the series, who will still find many certainties and will have fewer difficulties than those who want to get behind the wheel of Bagnaia’s Ducati for the first time. The AI and content in the game need to be improved.
