“If I go long, I’ll go third”
There MotoGP continues to give great emotions to all two-wheel enthusiasts and beyond. After the comeback of Maverick Vinales in the United States and the rustic duel between Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez in Jerez in France, Pecco and the eight-time world champion once again crossed paths in Le Mans on the last lap and this time it was the Catalan who get the better of it.
“I was far away because the Ducati GP-24s go away when accelerating – Marquez’s words in Parc Fermé to the Gresini team – I tried because I told myself that even if I went long I would still finish in third place.” Marquez climbed from thirteenth to second position in both the Sprint and the GP and Vinales told him in interviews: “When the noise of your motorbike was heard I knew there would be nothing I could do. Bastianini also passed me by, you were on another planet.”
Smiles and satisfaction also obviously in the Pramac corner, with Jorge Martin who also received compliments from Gigi Dall’Igna and was defined as Terminator rather than Martinator by team manager Gino Borsoi.
The only driver who was not at all satisfied with third place is Francesco Bagnaiadecidedly dark-faced and it couldn’t be otherwise for a two-time world champion who races with the number #1 on the front fairing. “We didn’t finish last”, crew chief Christian Gabarrini’s attempt to cheer up his driver.
