Fundamental tests
Fabio Quartararo had said it bluntly even before the Le Mans weekend, which obviously had a special meaning for him on an emotional level: “the Mugello test session will be more important than the French GP race weekend”. This is the level of attention and concentration that Yamaha is ready to dedicate to the two days of track activity organized on the Tuscan track between today and tomorrow, before the back to back races in Spain (26 May) and then in Italy at Mugello (on the weekend of June 2nd).
The old masters looking for a way
The Iwata manufacturer will not be alone: together with Quartararo and Rins, in fact, for these private tests, there will also be the Hondas of Luca Marini and Joan Mir. In fact, both Japanese manufacturers have obtained permission – based on the new concessions established by the MotoGP regulations – to have two days of work with the starting riders to try to close the gap – now enormous – that has been created with the European Ducatis, KTM and Aprilia. Suffice it to say that Yamaha and Honda together have collected less than half the points of the ‘worst’ manufacturer on the Old Continent, Aprilia.
“Honda will bring new parts that should help us,” Marini declared after the French weekend. The hope is that these two days of work can in some way direct the development of the two Japanese giants who in recent years have gone from fighting each other for the world titles to challenging each other at the bottom of the grid to avoid last place among the Constructors .
