Certainly not an easy moment for Lorenzo Musetti. The debut at the Italian Internationals ended with a withdrawal for the blue. He himself explained the reasons
After the withdrawals of Sinner and Berrettini and the defeat of Lorenzo Sonego against Lajovic, the Internazionali d’Italia immediately lost another Italian tennis player. Lorenzo Musetti, in fact, he retired during the match against the French Terence Atmane.
Musetti left the field on a score of 7-5; 1-0 in favor of the opponent who had won the first set thanks to the only break of the match which came at 6-5 in his favour. Shortly after the start of the second set, Musetti, who already appeared to be in great difficulty, shook hands with his rival and left the field, thus allowing Atmane, number 137 in the ATP ranking, to advance to the third round.
After the match, it was the tennis player from Carrara himself who explained the reasons for the flat rate at the press conference. It was immediately clear on the pitch that Lorenzo was not in his best condition and now we know why.

Musetti revealed that he took to the pitch against Centrale after a feverish attack. “Yesterday I had a fever and a virus that didn’t allow me to get to the match well – we read in the statements reported by Ubitennis – I had no energy and tried to shorten the points. I was struggling to breathe. I don’t know if winning the first set could have had a positive effect and canceled out the feeling of faintness I had. Retiring hurts, there is a lot of regret because I felt very good in training.”
Musetti had arrived at the Internationals after reaching the final at the Challenger in Cagliari and losing against the Argentine Navone. Now the blue will take a few days of rest to best recover energy for upcoming commitments.
Musetti should be on the field at Challenger of Turinthe tournament entered into the calendar this year which will be the last stage of preparation in view of Roland Garros, the second Slam of the season in which Lorenzo must defend at least the points obtained last year with qualification for the round of 16 (ko with Alcaraz).
