Consar Ravenna is the first Del Monte Final Four finalist team® Italian Cup Serie A2: Marco Bonitta’s team, engaged in the first Semi-final inside the Cuneo Palasport, overcomes Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina with the maximum gap. The first set was one-sided, the second and third sets were more competitive, with Ortenzi’s boys trying to reopen the match but without succeeding. Top scorer of the evening Mattia Orioli who, with 19 points in total (the same ones scored by the other opposite, Breuning Nielsen) gave Ravenna the final. Alexandros Raptis also stood out, closing his match with 14 points scored. At 7.30 pm on the Consoli Sferc Brescia and Delta Group Porto Viro pitch.
Grottazzolina on the pitch with Marchiani as director and Nielsen as opposite, Fedrizzi and Cattaneo in the squad, Canella paired with Mattei in the centre. The libero is Marchisio. For Consar Ravenna the main diagonal is made up of Mancini and Orioli, the spikers are Raptis and Feri while the central defenders are Bartolucci and Grottoli, with Goi libero.
The first set is all about Ravenna: Bonitta’s boys extend the lead straight away, taking the lead at 5-10. Grottazzolina tries to mend the game dragged by Breuning Nielsen’s 8 points (in the set), but the winning block by Orioli (9-15), playing opposite, allows Ravenna to keep Ortenzi’s team at a safe distance. Maximum advantage at 17-24 signed by Raptis, with Orioli’s attack once again giving the first set to Consar.
A more competitive second set, but once again Bonitta’s men win the set, thanks to greater clarity in the final: Ravenna tries to escape (4-7), but Grottazzolina does not give up and finds the equalizer at 7-7 with an attack out of Ravenna, then making the first overtaking of the match thanks to Fedrizzi (10-9). Orioli’s ace restores the three-point gap (12-15), while from 17-17 onwards the Marche players manage to keep up with the pace of Orioli and his teammates, driving Ravenna with 6 points in the second set. Ravenna tries to break away (21-23), Nielsen tries to close the gap but it is Orioli who gives him the set point, with Bartolucci’s winning block which brings Consar to 2-0.
Consar Ravenna closes the practice in three sets, which immediately tries to break away in the third set (1-3 with Orioli’s lob), but Grottazzolina manages to keep the fraction alive, drawing at 7-7 and taking the lead at 10- 9. The two teams continue point for point until 14-14, when Raptis’ break allows Ravenna to gain a new advantage, with Orioli’s point (16-19) giving the Ravenna team the maximum advantage. Yuasa comes back to attack, closing the gap to 20-20, but in the final Feri’s ace and Raptis’ winning attack (20-24) allow Ravenna to have 4 set points available, two of which canceled out first by Breuning Nielsen’s attack and then by Mattei’s ace. The point that explodes the joy of Bonitta’s bench is that of 22-25 when, after the call for the video check, the referee certifies the invasion of Grottazzolina. Ravenna celebrates and awaits tomorrow’s second finalist.
Mattia Orioli (Consar Ravenna): “AND It was a difficult match, we expected it, we were without Alessandro Bovolenta. We all did well, credit to the team, a great match. We did well in the first set and we worked well on defense, it was a great team match. Marco Bonitta’s hand can be seen a lot, we worked a lot this week with the three spikers. Today the understanding with the setter also went well, we have been working together for some time. We are waiting for our fans, we are here, we will give our best.”
Andrea Mattei (Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina): “Ravenna’s merits are on the management side, they kept us on every front, they were united from the first point. There is a lot of regret on our part, honor to them. There was a moment when we expected things to come by themselves and that wasn’t the case, Ravenna held the game on every front. Maybe we missed the approach to the match, we let the second set slip away while in the first and third sets Ravenna was very strong on serve. Thinking about the promotion to the Super League it is clear that we are still talking about it even though a few days have passed, we had to put the icing on the cake, we will try to do it in the Super Cup. We will try to be more careful in training, also because we will play it at home.”
