Sinner injured, Andy Roddick’s harsh comment: “That’s why it happened”

The various injuries that have involved the big names in tennis in recent weeks continue to cause discussion and among those that have made the most ‘noise’ is the one to Jannik Sinner, who after retiring in the Masters 1000 in Madrid was forced to give up the Italian Internationals (as happened for other types of physical problems to Carlos Alcaraz and Matteo Berrettini). And a harsh comment on Sinner’s stop came from the former tennis player Andy Roddick, now 41 years old and in the past managed to reach the top of the ATP rankings (staying there for 13 weeks from 3 November 2003 to 1 February 2004).

Sinner, Roddick’s harsh comment

“Sinner aggravated his problems by working in the gym during the Madrid tournament because he had no other time to do so – said the American during his podcast ‘Served with Andy Roddick’. He wants to be number one in the world and to do that he has to play tournaments. Not everyone is Djokovic and can win three Slams, you have to work hard especially when you are young and trying to reach the top for the first time.”. The problem with modern tennis is a very busy calendar but Roddick criticizes Jannik’s choice in some way: “There’s a lot of stress, the fact that Sinner feels the need to do a full workout in the gym during a tournament is sobering. Maybe you shouldn’t do both things in the same week you play matches.”
