The condition seems excellent, a couple of signals have already been sent: Filippo Ganna can finally set out on his own at the 2024 Giro d’Italiaafter having worked so hard for his captain Geraint Thomas, the blue of the Ineos Grenadiers will be the big favorite for tomorrow’s individual time trial.
Seventh stage, from Foligno to Perugia: 40.6 kilometers against the clock, of which the first thirty-four will be completely flat, therefore ideal for pure specialists. But then watch out for the finale: 6 kilometers uphill, a first stretch of one kilometer at an average gradient of 10%, then a constant climb at 4.4%.
The Italian champion will certainly start as the underdog, but his victory is not entirely a given. In fact, there will be several rivals ready to beat him: starting from Tadej Pogacar. The hard finish is perfect for the characteristics of the Slovenian who will certainly want to move up in the general rankings compared to his direct rivals.
Speaking of ranking men, one cannot fail to mention Thomas, who is Ganna’s teammate. The Welshman is excellent in time trials and will even want to try to fight for partial success. Still at Ineos, a name worth mentioning is that of Magnus Sheffield. Also watch out for Danish Mikkel Bjerg (UAE Emirates), who probably won’t do the full time trial to conserve important energy to use to support Pogacar.
